Logo Usage Guidelines

Stony Brook Medicine is the overarching graphic identity of our healthcare system.

The signature standard logo is made up of two components: the shield and wordmark. The shield contains a star and multiple rays. The wordmark consists of the words “Stony Brook Medicine.”

Stony Brook Medicine Shield and Wordmark
  • No alterations should be made to the shield, wordmark or complete standard logo.
  • Always use approved electronic artwork.
  • The shield and wordmark elements should not be separated.
  • It is only in rare pre-approved instances that these two elements shall appear unconnected.
  • The logo orientation formats shown are the only approved logo formats and should conform to all the rules and guidelines listed within the SBM brand guidelines.
  • The standard logo should never appear with any other mark or type treatment.

Approved Logo Orientations

IMPORTANT: The guidelines below apply to logo orientations for all standard logos (hospitals), programs of distinction (PODS), sub-brands, retail-oriented service ‘lock up’ and departmental logos.

Primary Logo Size

To ensure legibility, the Stony Brook Medicine logo should never be reproduced at sizes smaller than the measurements shown below. These are the absolute minimum widths necessary to ensure that the details within the shield are not compromised.

In all logo orientations below, the minimum widths are determined based on the width of the shield. The shield must never be reproduced at a size smaller than .22 inches wide. Always print the logo at 300dpi using vector artwork to avoid pixilation. Using vector logos will allow you to print to any size.

About Stony Brook Children’s Hospital

Stony Brook Children’s is our major sub-brand, as a second hospital devoted especially to children. It has its own signature logo, personality, voice and tone. The Stony Brook Children’s logo must appear on all marketing and communications branded content. This is essential for communicating our brand's message, value and visual identity.

Suffolk’s First and Only

Stony Brook Children’s Hospital is Suffolk County’s first and only children’s hospital. We offer the most advanced pediatric specialty care in the region. That means that the smallest babies, the sickest children and the most complex pediatric traumas all get sent to Stony Brook Children’s.
